Elizabeth Thornton: 2nd Grader

Elizabeth started 2nd Grade today. She was soooo cute this morning, all dressed up with her new clothes, shoes* and messenger bag (although she did say it was OK for me to call it a backpack.....so generous of her!).

*I don't think I ever posted about the drama surrounding the purchase of Elizabeth's shoes, but trust me when I say it was one of the most stressful days of the year and the fact that she wore the new shoes (and wore them all day long!) is nothing short of a miracle.

A couple of notes about the pictures above: the one with her making a V with her fingers is actually her sign for 2 (her idea!).....since she's in 2nd grade now. And, I took the one of the desk because even though it's a name tag, there's other stuff on there that the kids are supposed to be able to look at (numbers, letters, a ruler, etc) and I'm wondering why they're on the fronts of the desks where no one can see them rather than on the top. Hmmmmmm.

So, she had a good day and when I picked her up I got to hear all about the horrible things that some of the other kids did today. Elizabeth has some "challenging" kids in her class (I know this from previous experience with them over the last two years of being a lunch time parent) and apparently, they gave the teacher all they had today. The best story involved the liberal use of the word "butt cheek" (being used by someone other than Elizabeth). I'm ashamed to admit it, but I laughed right out loud when she told me about it. Have no fear though - I followed that up with a "I shouldn't have laughed at that, and you do realize that you are not allowed to use language like that". Just like a good parent would do!

LOL! I'm ashamed to admit it but it took me a second to get your joke. I'm slipping!
