I Am SO LUCKY......

One of the blogs I follow is My Charming Kids, written by MckMama.

She’s got 4 kids, all under the age of 5 and her youngest was born with a heart defect called Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) and is in the hospital right now while doctors try to keep him stable enough to take him into surgery.

When I read about the health problems that her little boy has, and about how his heart was beating so fast that it actually stopped this morning, I have to stop and take a deep breath because I can’t even imagine.

After that, I always take a second to think “Man…..I am SO LUCKY”.

I have a fantastic husband who is able and willing to do dishes, take care of kids and get up in the middle of the night if one of them wakes up (and tons of other stuff too). I have a great family that I am close to, and that I live close to and they are all willing to help out when needed. I talk to my mom every day. And not to fight with her.

And most of all, I have two healthy girls who are the BEST and who can do everything they’re supposed to be doing.

They can wake up every hour throughout the night and call for me because they’re not feeling good. They can get in trouble for talking when they’re not supposed to in school. They can fight, and tattle tale and hit and push each other. They can cry for a very long time over a very minor scrape. They can say things like “If you don’t stop sniffing me, I am going to start sniffing you back” to me. They can find a rope in the yard and tie a lawn chair to it and then hang it from a small tree. And then leave it there for me to find. They can want to help whenever it’s time to do the dishes or vacuum or dust, but not when it’s time to pick things up. They can essentially not eat anything for almost 4 days after being born because wow – breastfeeding is hard!

They can be born, and not sleep through the night for over a year. They can turn every single item of clothing they take off inside out. They can splash water ALL over the bathroom every time they take a bath. They can spill their drink 15 seconds after promising to be SO CAREFUL with a big girl cup. And when their drink spills, they can manage to get it to fly 25 feet beyond where they’re standing. They can do “science experiences” on the kitchen floor with water and grapes. They can pick up and stick with strange habits. They can scratch their new glasses less than 24 hours after getting them. They can be born with a frightening sounding infection, but come out of it no worse for the wear.

But most of all, they can be perfect and wonderful exactly the way they are.

I am SO LUCKY.
