Letters of Intent

Letters of Intent

It's Friday, and that means:  Letters of Intent!  Want to let someone or something know how you really feel?  Letters of Intent is for you!  After you read mine, head on over Julie's Blog, Foursons to see what she and other fun people have to say.

First off, forgive me in advance: this is a really long letter. I was harboring more resentment than I realized when I started writing!

Dear Employer Who Let Me Go Almost 3 Years Ago to the Date:

After working for you for almost 10 years, on December 22, 2006 you very unceremoniously (in my humble opinion) let me go. Oh wait….you eliminated my position.

Looking back at the last 3 years of my life, having this happen to me was actually a good thing. I can spend time at home with my family, I don’t have to work on the weekends – ever, I can go home and never get a call from work, I can take a guilt-free sick day, and I can stay home with a sick child without anyone giving me any grief because guess what: they actually care that I have a family.

During the time that I worked for you I was yelled at, called stupid, threatened and pushed around. That was just by customers. You, my employer, also yelled at me, micromanaged me because you didn’t trust anyone, asked me to do ridiculous things and insinuated that I was stupid. And you know what? I took it. For one, because you paid me a bunch of money and gave me a very nice car to drive (and even changed it out every two years for a brand new one). For two, because I cared about what I was doing. Even though in the whole scope of things……it didn’t really matter. Nothing that I did involved life or death.

During the time I worked for you, I took responsibility for the incompetence of others, got phone calls from people on Christmas (and pretty much every other important event that happened in my life), was made to fire people for not “fitting in” or because you didn’t like them, and had to endure all sorts of other horrors. And you know what? I took it. For one, because I really really liked most of the people I worked with and they made it bearable (because they had the same things happening to them). For two, besides paying me very well, you also covered 100% of me and my family’s health insurance. And, it was a very good plan and covered everything.

So, even though being fired (oh…….that’s right…….my position was eliminated….) was horrible and humiliating and I cried and swore and cursed you to all eternity, you know what? I am SO GLAD that I don’t work for you anymore.

My job now? I haven’t been yelled at ONCE. And I’ve been here for almost 2 ½ years. My job now? I get the whole week off between Christmas and New Year’s with pay. And so does everyone else, so I’m really not working because there’s no one around to call me and ask me questions. My job now? I am not required to work on machinery that I’m not certified to work on in an attempt to save money. My job now? The people I deal with are all mature and professional. All of them. My job now? There has not been a Monday that I dreaded coming in. Not once.

So take that, Employer Who Let Me Go Almost 3 Years Ago to the Date. I am sticking my tongue out at you and saying “nah nah nah nah nah nah”. I am feeling sorry for you because you don’t have me as a great employee anymore. I am laughing at you because while you worry about what happens on Christmas, my birthday, my kids’ and husband’s birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving and every other day of the year, I am at home enjoying myself.

Yours,

Jodi

I'm so glad you are in a better job that you enjoy! Sometimes what seems to be horrible at the time turns into a blessing in the long run.

Goodbye to those jerks in your previous job...the perks may have been nice, but who needs enemies when you have friends like that!

Thanks for linking up, I hope it helped you process through some of that stress!

I am so happy that I quit THAT Employer. Sorry I did that to you by the way. You were really great to work with even when I had to do crazy crap for you (them) all the time. Sorry about all the times I had to call you during special events. That must have sucked! Oh and sorry about the time you had to discipline me for something that all of THEM and you had done with me too. Do you remember that? Anyway, I am really glad you are happy!!!!
